THIS PROJECT AIMS TO STRENGTHEN THE RESILIENCE OF PALESTINIAN EAST JERUSALEM RESIDENTS AND PRESERVE THE PALESTINIAN CHARACTER OF THE CITY BY:
Increasing local and international awareness of the impacts of Israeli policies on the livelihoods and living conditions of Palestinian EJ residents.
Empowering the Palestinian communities and civil society in EJ to claim their rights and their political and developmental space through collective actions at community level, advocacy actions, and participatory planning.
Promoting the Palestinian cultural and heritage identity of the city and of Palestinian businesses related to local and international tourism.
Supporting the streamlining of effective interventions in the educational, health, environmental, and housing sectors.
The Challenge
OUR CHALLENGE IS TO PROVIDE USEFUL INFORMATION FOR A DIVERSE AUDIENCE INCLUDING ADVOCATES OF PALESTINIAN LEGAL RIGHTS, URBAN AND CITY PLANNERS, INCOMING TOURISTS, DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS, ACADEMICS, AND DONOR AGENCIES. IN RESPONSE, THE PROJECT:
Has developed a 3-dimensional geographic data model at an unprecedented level of spatial detail (10 cm resolution) showing 3D building for the entire EJ and a full textured 3-D model for the old city.
Wll develop visualization and analysis tools to support alternative planning, advocacy of Palestinian rights to sovereignty, to inform incoming tourists of our culture and heritage, to promote businesses in EJ, and to streamline donor sectoral interventions.
Has identified, through consultations with experts, the indicators and data sets per sector necessary to achieve the project objectives.
Will link the indicators and data to the 3-D data model (integration of 2-D and 3-D geodata) to allow visualization and analysis in both 3-D and 2-D environments.
